In record time and against numerous odds, Wheelabrator North Andover completed on February 16, 2001 the testing
protocol that signaled the completion of its air pollution control retrofit project.
The major design
and construction effort, required for compliance with the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments, took us only (20)
months to complete - far short of the 30 months typically required for a project of such magnitude.
As a result of the retrofit, the plant now has new state-of-the-art systems and technologies in place. The rigorous,
week long testing procedure monitored levels of mercury, cadmium, lead, hydrochloric acid, dioxin, ammonia, particulate,
opacity, and visible emissions. Results will be published in early spring.
Wheelabrator North Andover Receives Bronze Star for its Participation in OSHA's Volunteer Protection Program
WNA is proud to announce their association with the Occupational Health and Safety Organization's (OSHA's) Volunteer
Protection Program.

The Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) promote effective worksite-based safety and health. In the VPP, management,
labor, and OSHA establish cooperative relationships at workplaces that have implemented a comprehensive safety and
health management system. Approval into VPP is OSHA’s official recognition of the outstanding efforts of employers and
employees who have achieved exemplary occupational safety and health.
WNA has dramatically increased their commitment to safety, while drastically reducing the number of workplace accidents in the past few years.
Wheelabrator North Andover's commitment to safety in the workplace has earned them a Bronze Star in the VPP
program. The Bronze Star Award was presented to WNA on June 15, 2004. Wheelabrator North Andover was one of only
10 plants in the Northeast OSHA Region 1 to receive this award.
